What this one is for

A quarter of an hour is the unit most of the world already schedules in, which is why a timer that beeps every 15 minutes tends to slot straight into whatever you are doing. It is a pomodoro for people who find 25 minutes too long to commit to, and it happens to be the interval a lot of people use to time contractions in early labour, or to stay ahead of a parking meter.

Fifteen minutes is also the length of a decent single task. One email properly written, one page of notes, one room tidied. The beep is useful mostly as permission to stop and decide whether to keep going.

Rest is 0, so there is no break phase built in: the timer marks quarter hours and leaves the decision about breaks to you. Rounds controls the total length, four rounds being an hour. Push it to 16 for a four-hour stretch or drop it to 1 for a single quarter-hour block.

Good for

  • Short focus blocks when 25 minutes feels like too much
  • Timing contractions and other regular check intervals
  • Parking and appointment reminders
  • Chore blocks: fifteen minutes, one room

How it runs

Beep every 15 min for 1 hr. Press Start, or hit Space. The digits turn green while a work block runs and grey on rest.

Sound is on by default: a rising pair for work, a falling pair for rest, a tick for the last three seconds and a three-note finish. Mute with the speaker button. The screen stays on while the timer runs and the tab title shows the time left.

Change anything in Settings under the timer. The last setup you used on this page is remembered in your browser.

Questions people ask

Should I use this or a pomodoro timer?
Use the pomodoro timer if you want the breaks managed for you, including a longer one every few sessions. Use this if you only want the quarter-hour markers and would rather decide about breaks in the moment.
How do I run it for a whole afternoon?
Rounds 16 gives you four hours. There is no hidden maximum, and the total is always rounds times fifteen minutes because rest is zero.
Does it work with the tab in the background?
The timing does, because it is calculated from timestamps rather than counted, so switching away and back leaves you on the right round. Beeps only play while the tab is open and in front, and the wake lock holds the screen on only while the page is visible.
Can I use the keyboard?
Space starts and pauses, R resets, Esc pauses and leaves fullscreen. They are ignored while you are typing in a settings field.
