What this one is for
A 17 minute timer is the practice run for an 18 minute talk. Rehearsing a minute short leaves room for the laugh you did not plan and the question you get asked mid-sentence, which is why speaking coaches aim under the limit rather than at it.
Seventeen minutes is also a podcast segment, a simmer that reduces a sauce without catching, and a commute you can measure but not shorten.
Press Space to start. The tab title shows what is left so you can rehearse without staring at the clock, and it beeps at the end.

How it runs
Counts down 17 min, then beeps. Press Start, or hit Space. The digits turn green while a work block runs and grey on rest.
Sound is on by default: a rising pair for work, a falling pair for rest, a tick for the last three seconds and a three-note finish. Mute with the speaker button. The screen stays on while the timer runs and the tab title shows the time left.
Change anything in Settings under the timer. The last setup you used on this page is remembered in your browser.
Questions people ask
- Why rehearse at 17 minutes for an 18 minute slot?
- A live run is almost always slower than a rehearsal. Finishing a minute early on practice means you still land inside the slot on the day.
- Will it beep if I am in another window?
- The countdown stays accurate because it reads the clock rather than counting frames. The beep plays while the tab is open, or as soon as you return to it.
- Can I change the duration?
- Yes, set any length on the timer, or use the 16 and 18 minute pages.
- Does it work offline?
- Yes, after the first load it runs entirely in your browser.
