What this one is for

A 30 minute timer is a half hour block, which is the shortest amount of time most people can call real focused work. Long enough to get past the setup, short enough to not need a break halfway.

It is also a roast tray, a half hour on the bike, and the meeting length that should have been the default all along.

Press Space to start. The tab title counts down, a beep marks the end, and the screen stays awake while it runs.

Good for

  • A half hour deep work block
  • Oven roasting and baking
  • A thirty minute workout
  • Language practice sessions

03

How it runs

Counts down 30 min, then beeps. Press Start, or hit Space. The digits turn green while a work block runs and grey on rest.

Sound is on by default: a rising pair for work, a falling pair for rest, a tick for the last three seconds and a three-note finish. Mute with the speaker button. The screen stays on while the timer runs and the tab title shows the time left.

Change anything in Settings under the timer. The last setup you used on this page is remembered in your browser.

Questions people ask

How do I set a 30 minute timer on my laptop?
Open this page and press Space. It is already set, and the tab title shows the time left while you work elsewhere.
Will it still ring if I switch tabs?
Yes in practice. The countdown is timestamp based so it never drifts, and the beep plays while the tab is open or as soon as you return.
Can I change it to 45 minutes?
Yes, edit the duration on the timer or go to the 45 minute page.
Does it work without internet?
After the first load, yes. Everything runs in the browser.
